A tour of the Outer Hebrides, the island chain sitting off the north-west coast of Scotland, and the Isle of Skye.  Famed for stunning scenery, beautiful beaches, charming towns and long history, this is a wonderful place for a cycle tour.

Day One: We start our Hebrides Tour in Oban, a seaside resort town and home of the Oban Single Malt Whisky.  From there we catch the scenic ferry to Castlebay on the Isle of Barra, where we spend the first night.

Day Two: After a short morning ride to Ardmhor on the north of the island, we catch the short crossing to our next island, Eriskay. We ride over the Benbecula Causeway on to the Isle of Benbecula, a small pretty isle, full of lochs and little lochans and where we spend the second night, a 40 mile day in total.

Day Three: The next morning we take the coastal road north, with amazing views on your left out over the Atlantic Ocean.  We stop in at the famous Hebridean Smokehouse for elevenses and some of the best smoked salmon in the world.  Onwards north to catch another short ferry crossing to the magical island of Harris.

Harris is a moonscape of winding roads and beautiful bays. The quiet inlets of the east coast, with its quirky fishing villages and unreal landscape is like nowhere else in the world.  We cycle through this magnificent landscape up to a lovely spot on the east coast for the third night after a 50 mile day.

Day Four: We have a quiet morning enjoying the tranquility and impossibility of Harris, before a short ride to the ferry terminal to catch a boat to Uig on the Isle of Skye.  We take the coastal road around the north of Skye through some of the most iconic (and hilly) scenery in Scotland.  We pass by the magnificent Quiraing and Old Man of Storr. This day is only 35 miles, but with hills (almost 2000ft of climbing) and scenery that take your breath away you’ll definitely have earned a good rest.

Day Five: The fifth day takes us through the port town of Portree before continuing along more stunning hilly roads down the south east of the Isle of Skye.  We catch the last of our ferries from Uig to Mallaig, on the mainland, and cycle a short distance to our stop for the fifth night.

Day Six: We start the day with a train ride from Morar, on the west coast, to Fort William. The railroad is one of the most scenic in the country, featuring in Harry Potter amongst others.  Once we arrive in Fort William, we join some excellent cycle lanes along Loch Linnhe back to Oban.
